The story

The Shrine

It’s late autumn, and evening has already settled over the outskirts of Japan.

Walking alone along a quiet road, you stumble upon an old shrine tucked away among the trees. The dry evening air carries the scent of dark, aged wood and incense from somewhere within.

There’s a slight harshness to it — dry wood, lingering smoke, and years of weathering. Yet as you stand there a little longer, it becomes strangely grounding.

Quietly reminding you that some things have been here long before you.

The Furniture Shop

You take a walk through the older streets of Singapore, away from the familiar storefronts and crowds.

A rich woody scent catches your attention outside an old furniture shop. Inside, the smell of solid timber mixes with incense from a small altar near the entrance.

An uncle sits quietly by the doorway, fixing an old clock with careful hands. You don’t know him, but somehow, the scene feels familiar.

Like a little piece of old Singapore, still quietly carrying on.

How to use
  • Trim the wick to about 6mm before every burn.
  • On the first burn, let the wax melt close to the edge (within 4 hours).
  • Burn in still air, away from drafts, vents and fans.
  • Burn no more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Stop when about 1cm of wax remains.

Details

Hand-poured in small batches in Singapore with coconut, soy and beeswax, fragrance and essential oils. 275g (10oz), approx. 55-hour burn.

Handcrafted ceramic vessel, approx. 10.5cm wide × 8cm high. Each one is made by hand, so its size, shape and glaze vary slightly and no two are alike.

Give your vessel a second life:

  1. Once cooled, scrape out the leftover wax and wick with a spoon (avoid knives).
  2. Throw the wax in the trash, never down the sink.
  3. Soak in hot, soapy water, then wash, rinse and dry.
  4. Use it as a planter, pen holder or keepsake.

Or return it through our Full Circle Programme for $20 off your next candle.

Safety & storage
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep away from children, pets and anything flammable.
  • Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • In humid weather your candle may sweat a little; simply wipe it dry before lighting.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
